Gerard Vincent “Jerry” Fortmuller

Gerard Vincent “Jerry” Fortmuller, age 73, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Born in Staten Island, NY on September 15, 1950, he was the son of the late Vincent and Grace (Fabiszak) Fortmuller. Jerry was a graduate of Tottenville High School in Staten Island, NY, with the class of 1969. He later earned his associates degree from Goldey-Beacom College. In 1970, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving until 1974. He also enlisted in the Delaware Air National Guard as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in October of 2006. Jerry made his career as a chemical operator and maintenance mechanic at Croda Atlas Point, formerly ICI and SPI, where he retired in February of 2013. In his spare time, Jerry could often be found playing golf or shooting pool.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret DeMarco. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Arlene Marie Fortmuller; children, Maureen Haut (Shawn), Christopher Fortmuller (Kristine), and Stephanie Fortmuller (Michael Sadlowski, Jr.); siblings, Donald Fortmuller and Karen Mangual; grandchildren, Christopher N. Fortmuller, Christopher G. Fortmuller, Jr., Matthew Fortmuller, Shawn Haut, Jr., and Madelynn Stonebraker; and great-granddaughter, Briar Fortmuller.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. A committal service will follow in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

Arlene, I was deeply saddened to hear of Jerry’s passing. He was a good man and a very good friend. I’m sorry we drifted apart, but I guess that sometimes happens when people retire. If there was ever a Yankee fan that St. Peter let’s pass through the pearly gates it would be Jerry. My thoughts and prayers to you in this sad time in your life. May he rest in peace.
