Gertrude A. “Gert” Pavlick - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Gertrude A. “Gert” Pavlick

September 15, 1937 - December 1, 2025

Gertrude A. “Gert” Pavlick, age 88, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025.

Born in Larksville, PA, on September 15, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine (Hardiman) Maher. Gert began her career as a secretary at Delaware Trust and later served as an administrative secretary at MBNA for 15 years until her retirement. Never one to sit still, she went on to start her own business, Creations By Gert, designing custom cards that reflected her artistic eye and love of crafting.

A woman of deep faith, Gert was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church. She was also an avid and adventurous reader—devouring books of every subject and returning to her beloved Bible countless times. Reading was her daily ritual, her comfort, and her joy.

Gert lived life with remarkable energy and youthful spirit well into her 80s. She cherished time with her friends and was known for keeping an impressively full social calendar. Creative, artistic, and endlessly resourceful, she had a gift for décor, was an excellent cook, and was the family’s go-to party planner. Years ago, she was affectionately known as the neighborhood haircutter, offering free haircuts, perms, and plenty of lively conversation—and oh, did she love to talk! She never accepted a dime, but she gave generously of her time, her talents, and her heart.

Above all, Gert treasured her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous pride and happiness.

In addition to her parents, Gert was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Pavlick, Sr.; son-in-law, William Hearne; and siblings, Thomas Maher, Margaret Novick, William Maher, James Maher, Josephine Stephenson, John Maher, and Richard Maher. She is survived by her children, Andrew Pavlick Jr., Cindy Marando (Michael), and Sandy Hearne; grandchildren, Andrew Pavlick III, Joseph Pavlick (Bryana), John Pavlick, Brooke Dunlap (Chris), Michael Marando II, Calli Marando (Eero Dinkeloo), Jacob Vansant (Alexandra), William Hearne, and Daniel Hearne; and great-grandchildren, Giabella, Kai, Christopher “CJ”, Niko, Mila, and Lily Mae.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE. A committal service will begin at 10 am on Friday, December 12, 2025, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

16 Condolences for Gertrude A. “Gert” Pavlick

  • Gert was a treasure and our family loved her so much. She was my mom’s dear friend, a safe place to go while my parents worked, a loyal, loving and amazing woman. Always willing to help, lend a hand, or our go to when we needed to “borrow” a needed key ingredient for dinner. She gave me my Dorthy Hamel haircut and supported me through some challenging times as an adult. We hit the neighbor jackpot for sure. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her loved ones. Love Chris
