Gloria Elizabeth (White) Young

Gloria Elizabeth (White) Young, age 83, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Born in Roanoke, VA on November 17, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Crosby White, Sr. and Mary E. (Board) White. Gloria was a graduate of Lucy Addison High School with the class of 1959. She continued her education in social work, earning her Bachelor’s degree from Hampton Institute in 1963 and her Master’s degree from Smith College. During her college years at Hampton University, Gloria was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Gamma Iota Chapter, and actively served on the Pan Hellenic Council. She began her career as a social worker and later became a professor of social work at State University of New York.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her grandson, Avery Moore; and siblings, Rufus C. White Jr., and Mark White. She is survived by her children, Warren Young (Shirley) of Newark, Stacey Moore (Nathaniel) of Newark, Monica Eason (Dwayne) of Sterling Heights, MI, and Kori Brown of Japan; grandchildren, Diamond Moore of Las Vegas, NV, Nathaniel Moore II of Newark, Isaiah Moore of Newark, Sophia Moore of Newark, Adam Moore of Newark, Kennedy Eason of Sterling Heights, MI, and Madison Eason of Sterling Heights, MI; siblings, Norma White of Georgia, Tanya White (Matt) of Naples, FL, and Nathaniel White (Joyce) of Poughkeepsie, NY.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.
