Gregory Garland “Greg” Gaden, age 90, of Middletown, DE, formerly of Smithtown, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

Born in Coal Creek, TN on May 23, 1933, he was the son of the late Garland and Mary Camile (Benham) Gaden. Greg’s passion for aviation began while proudly serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his service, he started his 50 year career beginning with United Airlines and later the Garrett Corporation. Greg earned the Charles Taylor “Master Mechanic” Award for 50 Years of Dedicated Service in Aviation Safety in 2016 From the Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.

A man of faith, Greg was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Parish for 20 years. He enjoyed serving his community as a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, Greg could often be found reading his favorite aircraft magazines. More than anything, he loved his family and treasured his moments spent with them. Greg will always be remembered for having a smile on his face and bringing a smile to others.

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Fuzie. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen Larsen Gaden; daughters, Theresa Joy, Patricia Bartoszak, and Pamela Denehan (Stephen); sons, Robert Gaden (Kathy), Thomas Gaden (Jocelyn), and Gregory Gaden (Cynthia); 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 12 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 pm, following the visitation, at St. Joseph Parish, 319 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

  • Since my father passed away at a young age, Dad was a true example of what a father should be. Kind, generous, supportive, and appreciative of any invitation for dinner or a party at our home. He offered me a father daughter dance at our wedding in 1987 and I have spent most of our marriage loving him. Dad, you will be surely missed and may you rest in Eternal Peace.
