H. David “Dave” Shafer III
April 11, 1952 - March 3, 2025
H. David “Dave” Shafer III, age 72, of Marcus Hook, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 3, 2025.
Born in Chester, PA on April 11, 1952, he was a son of the late Hiram David Shafer, Jr. and Eleanor T. (Gamble) Cordes. Dave was a graduate of St. James High School class of 1970. He made his career as a quality control inspector at Congoleum.
A friend to the community, Dave was a member of the volunteer firefighters and fire police in Marcus Hook, PA. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and a longtime season ticket holder for the Flyers. However, his real passion for sports was baseball and his beloved Phillies, culminating with attending Game 3 of the 2009 World Series. Dave enjoyed spending his free time camping and fishing with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Shafer. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou (Davis) Shafer; son, David Shafer (Xochitl); stepchildren, Karen Johnson (Scott) and William Jensen (Toni); grandchildren, Michelle, Cecilia, David Jr., Danny, Anthony, Nick, Eric, Stephanie, and Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Ava, Rocco, Gianna, Cameron, Savannah, Travis, Grace, Jase, Juliana, and Ariana; brother, Larry Shafer (Brenda); and dogs, Charlie and Lucky.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
