H. Richard “Dick” Hoffman
November 16, 1937 - November 24, 2024
H. Richard “Dick” Hoffman, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
Born in Wilmington, DE on November 16, 1937, he was a son of the late Francis and Geneva (Bromwell) Hoffman. Dick worked as a butcher and meat manager at the former A&P Grocery Store where he retired in 2000.
A friend to the community, Dick enjoyed serving as a member and twice as Past Master of the Solomon Lodge No. 36 A.F. & A.M. He also volunteered at Fort Delaware for many years and was a Civil War history buff. A man of faith, Dick was a member of Ogletown Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He was very proud of his home where he raised both his daughters. During the spring and summer, you could often find him tending to his flower gardens. During the fall, you could always find Dick cheering on his beloved Eagles football team. Most of all, Dick loved doting on his grandchildren. He will always be remembered as being very outspoken and always happy to share his opinion with anyone who would listen.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by 8 siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah L. Dudziec (John) and Sheryl L. Buckman (Brian); grandchildren, Kyle M. Dudziec (Caitlin), Bradley R. Dudziec, Rebecca J. Buckman, and Paige G. Buckman; and significant other, Jo Krough.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:45 am until 10:45 am on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a Masonic service will begin at 10:45 am, followed by a funeral service for Dick. Inurnment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick’s memory to the Fort Delaware Society, P.O. Box 553, Delaware City, DE 19706 or online by clicking here.

We are so sorry for your loss. Richard sang with us in choir and joined our Bible study class at Ogletown a couple years ago. We were sorry to see the suffering Richard endured these last few years, and rejoice that his faith in the Lord Jesus has now made him whole

Mr. Hoffman was always friendly and welcoming. Every time I would see him he could always launch into a conversation so easily. He had lots of good stories to tell and lots of knowledge to share. I am sorry for your loss.
