Henry “Harry” E. Barlow, III
March 5, 1932 - April 3, 2018
Henry Harry E. Barlow, III, age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Wilmington, DE on March 5, 1932, he was a son of the late Henry E. and Sarah E. (MacAvaney) Barlow, Jr. In his younger years Harry served in the U.S. National Guard. He was the proud and talented owner and operator of Barlow’s Upholstery, Inc. He was notably a perfectionist and had a competitive drive and desire to be the best at everything he did.
Harry had a passion for sports. He loved watching his favorite Philadelphia teams. He especially loved playing golf and in the early years bowling with his wife. Harry also enjoyed traveling, the thrill of roller coaster rides and watching Family Feud. He had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. Harry was a dedicated family man and loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his wife and angel, Joanie. Harry will always be remembered as a loving brother, father, grandfather and dear friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Joan M. (Downs) Barlow; son, John Anthony Barlow; daughter, Joan Ann Barlow; sister, Martha Webb; and great-granddaughter, Emily Dunn. He is survived by his children, Henry E. Barlow, IV of Rehoboth, David M. Barlow of Newark, Barbara A. (Barlow) Gills of Wilmington, Barry K. Barlow of Newark and Jay D. Barlow of Newport; brothers, John, Norman and Aaron; sisters, Phyllis, Sarah, Sharon and Gail; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held 11 am until 1 pm on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harry’s name to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Newark, DE, 19711.
