Hugh J. Kenney
Mr. Hugh J. Kenney, 61, of New Castle, DE, passed away on January 7, 2012, surrounded by family and friends.
A native Delawarean, Hugh was born in Wilmington on May 14, 1950, son of the late Hubert Kenney and Margaret Foley Kenney. He was a 1969 graduate of Salesianum High School and would go on to make his career with the Delaware River and Bay Authority, where he retired as the scheduling supervisor for the tolls department. Following his retirement, he later accepted a position as the toll plaza manager with the Delaware Department of Transportation.
Hugh was a gifted athlete throughout his life and shared his talents as a coach and mentor for the University of Delaware men’s and women’s rugby teams for 10 years. A true family man above all else, he will be long and lovingly remembered as a caring husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a devoted friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Plumley-Kenney; daughter, Brandi MacDonald (David) and her mother, Linda Kenney; stepchildren, Terri Palmer, Lisa Plumley, and Christopher Plumley; brothers, Fred Kenney (Toni) and Tom Kenney (Noreen); sister, Karen Pasquale (John); and grandchildren, Margaret, Patrick, and Quinten. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Frank Beardell and his staff, Mary, Donna, and Tina, and the 6 C nurses at Christiana Hospital for the compassionate and professional care given to Hugh to during his illness. Especial gratitude goes to Dr. Nick Biasotto, Hugh’s good friend for over 50 years; Nick, thank you for keeping him alive over the last 25 years.
A funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Friday, January 13, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 5 pm.
