Isaac H. “Ike” Hammond, Jr.

November 26, 1955 - July 22, 2025

The family of Isaac H. “Ike” Hammond, Jr. is saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the age of 69.

Ike was born on November 26, 1955, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Isaac Sr. and Mary E. (Kent) Hammond, and was a long-time resident of Bear, Delaware. Ike proudly served with the Army National Guard at New Castle Airbase for a number of years. He worked for over 40 years at Dupont Chambers Works, New Jersey, retiring in 2016.

Ike loved to travel and cruise with his extended family. If there was a celebration, school, or athletic activity he was there. He was a loyal fan of the Eagles and Phillies, rarely missing an opening day game at the Vet and CBP.

He was a long-time member of The Church of the Nativity, New Castle, where he and Mary married. He served on the Vestry and maintenance teams. After the church closing several years ago, he found another welcoming home at St. James Episcopal Church in Newport.

Ike was predeceased by his parents, Isaac Sr. and Mary Ellen; daughter, Lindsay; sisters, Florence MacLaren and Penny Wilhelme; as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephew, brothers-in-law, and sister-in-law. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; son, Matthew and daughter-in-love Sarah; son-in-love, Steven Malgiero; granddaughter, Braelynn Malgiero; along with many cherished family members.

Our family is deeply grateful to the staffs of Medical Oncology and Hematology Associates Graham Center, Christiana Hosp. Infusion Center, Christiana Hosp. • Mary-I was so saddened to see Ike passed away. I met you with Ike at the Plaza Family Restaurant in Newport, DE several years ago. We reminisced of how Ike worked with my mom at the Bradford House Restaurant until her tragic death in May 1975. After, him, Jimmy Kitts, and Ronnie still remained friends til everyone took different jobs…he was the kindest and caring person as well as funny. Your loss is felt. May your innumerable memories comfort you as you continue your life’s journey, reassured you will meet again in the Resurrection. Heartfelt sympathy, Love Charlene

  • I am so sorry for this loss for your family. Ike will be missed by all who knew him. He was a good man.
