James Arthur Wallace, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away from a recent illness, surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Most recently he was a resident at Rockland Place in Wilmington, DE for the past 3 years.

Born in Millington, MD on April 14, 1937, he was a son of the late John C. and Ella May (Hurtt) Wallace. James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he also played baseball. He was an avid sportsman who loved golfing, was a softball league coach at DuPont and Avon for the women’s leagues, and was in a bowling league in Brookside. Also active in his community, James was the past president of Christiana High School Boosters and Webelos Scout Leader in Christiana. In his spare time, he loved weaving macrame chairs, latch hook and cross stitch. Most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren play sports, he would never miss a game.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, William Wallace; sister, Barbara Jester; brothers-in-law, Mervin Richards, Pete Edwards, and Jack Jester; sister-in-law, Bobby Jo Wallace; and grandson, Steven Boothe. He is survived by his sons, J. Greg Wallace (Terri), and Todd A. Wallace (Margaret); sisters, Betty Richards, and Janet Edwards; grandchildren, Abigail Wallace, Daulton Wallace, Zachary Wallace, Brooke Wallace, Sarah Mooney (Kyle), and Jillian Ondich (Bryan); great-granddaughter, Amelia Mooney; his longtime lady friend, Jean Kusching; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Wallace family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Rockland Place as well as the wonderful VITAS hospice nurses.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
