James Francis McGlynn, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on July 21, 1938, James was a son of the late John P. and Alice (McKendry) McGlynn. He traveled extensively during his time in the Navy and during his working years, sometimes spending months in foreign and exotic locations. He retired in 1992 and thereafter enjoyed spending time with family. He loved to regale audiences with his stories.

Beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Sharkey); devoted father of Maureen Macomber (Ronald), Eileen McLaughlin (John), Rosemarie Hartnett (Jeffrey) and Matthew. He was Pop-Pop to 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Eileen McGarrity; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Gilmore) McGlynn and Mary Jo (Gaudioso) McGlynn; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his siblings, John, Charles, The Reverend Monsignor Daniel McGlynn, Sheila, Brother Joseph McGlynn, OFM Cap, and Robert; his sister-in-law, Bridget (Sharkey) McGlynn; and brother-in-law, Joseph McGarrity.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2316 Fairhill Avenue, Glenside, PA, where a Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held in Washington Crossing National Cemetery at a later date.
