James P. “Jim” Lester

June 11, 1964 - March 6, 2023

James P. “Jim” Lester, age 58, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023.

Born in Youngstown, OH on June 11, 1964, he was a son of the late Don and Diane (Schrader) Lester. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He spent his career working as lead maintenance operator at Calpine Energy until his retirement.

Jim found comfort and peace at his favorite spot, the beach. He spent countless hours relaxing on the sand, fishing and crabbing. Jim was a dedicated member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) as well as Dave Dolby Sussex AmVets Post 2. Most of all, he will be remembered as a social butterfly with a loving and compassionate nature.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina Lester; and brothers, Francis Lester and Joseph Lester. He is survived by his children, Jesse Lester and Courtney Lester; former wife of 34 years, Sandra Lester; siblings, John Lester, Sr., Thomas Hanlon, Jr., Amy Hanlon Pritchett, and Regis Hanlon; uncle and aunt, Daniel and Jaqueline Phibbs; numerous nieces and nephews; and fur grandbabies, Cleo and Lemy.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

  • My Big Brother, my Budda , my Jimbo we went so many years without talking and then we finally got back in touch and got very close over the last 3 years. I’ll always cherish our phone calls,silly texts and visits and I’ll never understand some things but I guess that’s how life rolls as you would say. I hope your in Heaven watching over your beautiful daughter and son and keep your family in a close eye also, no matter what I’ll always need my big brother like I always told you I would.   • I can’t believe your gone man you were such a great guy we had such a great time together and you gave me a hell of a talk about making sure I treat you baby sister right or else.   • Jim was our next-door neighbor. We knew him as a kind and caring person who was always coming over to see if we needed any help from him with lifting or moving anything in the garden. He was a good and caring man. We will always remember him. We send our love to his family.
