James Taylor “Jim” Gray

October 2, 1944 - October 29, 2025

James Taylor “Jim” Gray, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

Born in Elkton, MD on October 2, 1944, he was a son of the late Herman and Dorothy (Lewis) Gray. Jim was a graduate from North East High School in Maryland. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard. Jim married his high school sweetheart the following year, Betty Jean Isaacs. He devoted many years as a superintendent at Falcon Steel. After retirement, Jim opened Jim’s Repair Service.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed listening to music, working on his ‘64 Corvette and taking care of his yard. He also enjoyed helping his neighbors with their mower repairs. He could often be found hanging in shop with his brother, neighbors, and friends. But he most loved spending time with his family and his dog, Gibbs.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Isaacs) Gray. He is survived by his daughters, Lori Gray (David Trefsger) and Jennifer Carl (Jeremy); siblings, Kathy Hickman (Clyde), Mary Jean Simpers, Lisa Horney, and Bill Gray; and grandchildren, Will Carl and Cameron Carl.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 3:30 pm on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 3:30 pm. Inurnment will be held privately.
