James W. “Jim” Maucher

James W. “Jim” Maucher, age 92, of Bear, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on October 25, 1932, he was the son of the late James and Agnes Maucher. Jim attended Sacred Heart elementary school in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Salesianum School in 1950. He attended the University of Delaware for a year and a half before joining the US Army serving for two years as an infantryman from 1953 to 1955. In 1956, he became a trooper with the Delaware State Police, retiring after 20 years of service, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. His fondest memories were serving at Troop 2, State Road, as a canine officer. During his career, he worked at Troops 1, 2, 6, 9 and retired out of Headquarters in Dover. After retiring from DSP, Jim worked for 15 years in Security and Transportation for the duPont Company.

Jim was an avid skeet shooter, duck hunter and fisherman. He was most proud of his beloved hunting and working dogs throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Virginia (Ginny) Maucher and his son, James (Jimmy) Maucher.

Jim is survived by his sister, Bernadette McKay, brother, Charles Maucher, daughters Jane D’Angelo (Terry) and Bridget Maucher. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

A public visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am to 11 am, on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at St. Paul’s R.C. Church, 209 Washington Street Delaware City, DE 19706. Services and interment will be held privately.
