Janet M. Stutzman - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Janet M. Stutzman

October 30, 1947 - September 3, 2023

Janet M. Stutzman, age 75, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

Born in Chester, PA on October 30, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Edward G. and Wilena (Hutton) Ebright of Boothwyn, PA. After an almost 30-year career at Siemens (formerly Dade Behring and DuPont) in the Accounts Receivable department, Janet embraced the opportunities afforded to her in retirement. She enjoyed traveling across the country in her camper with her late husband, their dog Sandee, and often other members of her FCRV (Family Campers and RVers) camping group. She was an active member of the Weston Senior Center and the MOT Senior Center, volunteered her time at the Neighborhood House, and was a member of the Black Pots Outdoor Cooking group. Janet was an active member of New Castle United Methodist Church, where she delivered Meals on Wheels, was a member of the women’s group, and attended Bible study.

When she wasn’t traveling, Janet enjoyed quilting, Phillies baseball, bowling, trying new recipes, reading her bible, and, most importantly, making memories with her family. Some of her best memories were made being “Mimi” to her grandchildren, whom she took along on many vacations, taught to sew and cook, and served as a cheerleader at all of their sporting events and other clubs and activities.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Stutzman. She is survived by her children, Sharon Horrocks, Sean Williams, and Scott Williams (Marie); five grandchildren, Cody, Scott, Jr., Alyssa, Jordan, and Peyton; sister, Lois Davis (Stephen); brother, Edward Ebright (Jimmie); a host of nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 6:00 PM. A committal service will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to the New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Street, New Castle DE 19720.

  • I am so sorry for your loss my brother.

  • Sharon, Scott and Sean:
Your mom and I go way back to when we met in 7th grade. We enjoyed many journeys together and just life in general. She was one of the best friends I ever had. I know she and Charlie are together again and probably square dancing once more. She very seldom sat still and was always looking for the next adventure. I miss her terribly.

  • My condolences to the family, and to Sean; brother I’m thinking of you and family. Your mother was so very sweet and caring. I am lucky to have met her and spent time with your family. Bless your mother and bless your family!

  • The Valley Forge Black Posts just heard the news of Janet’s passing. We are so glad she got to attend the National Dutch Oven Gathering we hosted in 2022. I fondly remember camping next to Janet and Charles at Cabelas in Hamburg one year. In the evening we sat out in our folding chairs and just chatted for a few hours. That was the last time we got to see Charles. We had the pleasure of camping again with Janet several times after that as nothing stopped her from doing what she loved.
I do have some pictures of Janet that I posted on our website, https://www.facebook.com/ValleyForgeBlackPots?mibextid=ZbWKwL.

If you’d like the originals or any others I can find, please email me.

We are all so sad to hear of her passing. We’ll remember the many good times. Peace to your family.
