Janice A. (Dacey) Kamalski
January 31, 1965 - September 30, 2023
Janice A. (Dacey) Kamalski, age 58 of New Castle, DE passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2023.
Janice was born in Wilmington, DE on January 31, 1965. She was a graduate of William Penn High School Class of 1983. She also spent some time studying abroad in London with the University of Delaware, where she saw the love of her life for the first time, Elton John. She later married someone slightly less famed, Mark J. Kamalski in 1994 with whom she remained happily married for 15 years and sharing two children before his unexpected passing in March 2009.
She was well-known for her humorous personality and affective presence, and she thrived in any crowd. If Janice wasn’t cracking a joke, she was likely spending her time painting, doing crossword puzzles, or losing her last twenty bucks to a slot machine. Those who were lucky enough to call her a friend knew they could always confide in her for her advice or her humor.
Janice is survived by her children Kelly and Luke Kamalski; her siblings Linda Dacey and Patricia Johnson; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and was very excited to meet her first grandchild this week. She is preceded in death by her parents Edward Dacey and Elizabeth Weidner O’Neill; and her husband Mark J. Kamalski.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family and always remembered in their hearts.
We are sincerely grateful to the many friends who have given us support and comfort during this time of loss.
Per Janice’s request, services will be private. A celebration of life is to be held at a later date- please reach out to Kelly Kamalski for more information.

My thoughts and prayers to her children and family . I had the pleasure of working with Janice at BK and HSBC enjoying the kids bday parties over the years. It has been some years since we crossed paths but I did get to see her comedy shows and she was so much fun to be around. May she share that laughter in heaven:)

A great tribute and a great loss. I am so sorry! . She was always funny and easy to be around . I do remember her loving Elton John even when we were kids. I remember spending the night at Uncle Eddie’s: playing poker, Janice and I crashing Patty and Linda’s girl boy party, having my first slow dance( poor guy), staying up late talking to Janice about……you guessed it Elton John , of course. Hope you share the funny stories and her jokes with one another and find comfort in that.

Dear Kelly and Luke,
I had the pleasure of meeting your mom during that fateful semester in London – she was so fun and funny, and I’m the sucker she convinced to join her on the quest to find Elton John’s house in Windsor… we tramped all over the town in the rain and never did see him, although she was sure that his wife (!) drove past us at one point, ha! Later I said, “Ummm, isn’t what we did in Windsor considered stalking?” and she said, “Only if they’re keeping records!” Oh lord did she make me laugh.
She was there the night I met my late husband, and when your dad died she and I traded messages about being widowed… I’m SO sorry for your loss. I haven’t seen her since I moved to Colorado years ago but a few of us were talking about having a UD/London reunion one of these days. I’m so sorry we didn’t get around it.
She won’t be forgotten.

I was Janice’s roommate during the semester in London, 1985. We first met while sitting at the Philly airport waiting to get on the plane to our big adventure. One of the highlights was taking the bus from London to Windsor in hopes that we’d catch a glimpse of Elton John. We never did, and waiting for the bus back to London was the coldest day in the history of the world. J and I were opposites in many ways, but came to be beloved friends during that time, for the rest of college years and stayed in touch for many years afterward. We were there for each other’s weddings. Mark, Janice and Kelly (approx age 3?) spent a weekend with us in Rehoboth. Luke was not around yet! I am so sad for her loss, for all of us, but especially her many lifelong friends and her children. Rest in peace, my friend.

I was searching the internet for Janice’s routine where she describes her meds to Tom Cruise – so classic Janice and SO funny! I was surprised and saddened to read that she recently passed away. Listening to her always got me laughing and feeling better. So much talent! I and many others will miss her wonderful and one of a kind humor. Thank you Janice for sharing yourself with us!
