Janice Ellen Melson, age 73, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021.

Born in Milford, DE, on November 25, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Isaac and Cora Marie (Seely) Warrington. Janice was raised in Bridgeville, and graduated from the University of Delaware. She made her career as a Family Consumer Science teacher for the Red Clay School District, and retired after dedicating over 30 years of service. Janice was a member of Skyline United Methodist Church and New Castle County 4-H Link. She was also a Master Food Educator for the New Castle County Cooperative Extension, and a Meado Larks 4-H Club organizational leader.

Janice delighted in sitting on the family deck in Lancaster, PA, and traveling around the U.S., where she visited lighthouses, embraced local cuisines, and attractions. She loved watching things bloom, and cherished time spent with her family on vacations, especially with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Everitt Warrington. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Cecil Melson; sons, Christopher Melson (Leslie), Alex Melson (Jody), and Ryan Melson (Lacey); sister, Joyce Simpson; sister-in-law, Cathy Warrington; aunt, Betty Swain; and grandchildren, Alyson Melson, Tyler Melson, Alexis Melson, Jordan Melson, and Grace Melson.

A graveside service will be held privately. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janice’s memory to Skyline United Methodist Church, 3100 Skyline Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808 or Delaware 4-H Foundation, 113 Townsend Hall, 531 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
