Jean Hart Draper

November 27, 1934 - May 15, 2024

Jean Hart Draper, age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Born in Wilmington, DE on November 27, 1934, she was the youngest of six children born to the late William D. and Mary (Conway) Hart. A 1952 graduate of Wilmington High School, Jean married the love of her life, Robert S. Draper on June 14, 1952. She made her career as a medical secretary and a transcriptionist at Christiana Care for many years.

Jean and Robert were long time members of St. James Episcopal Church Newport, singing in the choir with their 4 children. After their retirement, they moved to Lewes where they were active with friends, neighbors, and their YMCA buddies. Jean and Robert loved the beach, traveling, nature, and adored their dogs, Cookie and Heidi. They spent 58 loving years together before Robert passed away in 2010. Ornery with a true Irish spirit, Jean made delicious blueberry muffins and her famous mac and cheese topped with crispy spam. She will be deeply missed by her children.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her siblings. She is survived by her children, Susan Hooke (Robert), Robert Draper Jr. (Aura), David Draper (Mary), and PJ Moyn (John Benedict); 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The Draper family would like to extend a special thank you to Millcroft Living Facility for their loving care of Jean.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to Faithful Friends, 165 Airport Road, New Castle, DE 19720 or online by clicking here.
