Jean M. Finnegan, age 95, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on July 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James and Ella May (Layer) Mullen. Jean was a graduate of West Chester State College in 1950 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education. She began her career as a physical education teacher at Holy Child Academy in Drexel Hill, PA, and later at Holmes School in Philadelphia, PA and Lower Cape May Regional, Lower Township, Cape May County, NJ. Jean retired in 1985 from Kensington High School in Philadelphia, PA. She coached girls’ basketball and field hockey during her career.

Jean married the love of her life, Leo Finnegan on May 28, 1955. Together, they lived throughout Pennsylvania and Cape May, NJ. Jean especially loved her time living in Cape May and attended Cape May Presbyterian Church. She was a sports enthusiast and an avid Philadelphia sports fan. Jean and Leo enjoyed RV travelling to attend sporting events, particularly college football games, while sightseeing around the country. In her spare time, she enjoyed needlepointing, quilting, or reading. Jean also loved playing canasta and bingo.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Leo G. Finnegan; and daughter, Lee Ann Kidd (Rocky). She is survived by her son, James “Ken” Finnegan (Robin); grandchildren, Justin Kidd, Kenneth Finnegan (Crystal), Joshua Kidd, Robert Finnegan, and Kimberly Kidd; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Finnegan, Emma Kidd, and Riley Kidd.
