Jean Odell Ramundo

Jean Odell Ramundo, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

Born in Pulaski, VA on August 24, 1932, Jean was a daughter of the late Ivan A. Hall and Nina (Gray) Moorefield. Jean worked in her early years at a gunpowder plant in Virginia, and later moved to New Castle. There, she began working in a burlap bag factory until finally becoming a school bus driver for special needs children, as well as the activities bus driver for New Castle County Public Schools. Jean enjoyed her years of driving the school bus. She flourished in taking care of her “kids”. They all loved her. Jean has resided at the Little Sisters of the Poor for the past three years. She enjoyed her time there. Jean also loved to watch her teams, the Eagles and the Phillies, play. She was a loving mother and grandmother

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, William E. Hoback; second husband, Alfred W. Ramundo; son, Thomas I. Hoback; son-in-law, Herbert Simpson; and grandson, Robert “Robbie” Walker.  She is survived by her daughters, Debra L. Simpson of Wilmington and Celina J. Douty (Charles) of Port Deposit, MD; grandchildren, Stephanie Hoback of New Castle, Dwayne Hoback of Dagsboro, Charles A. “Chad” Douty of Westminster, MD, and Benjamin C. Douty of Westminster, MD; and great-grandchildren, Thomas Tyler Hoback, Faith Hoback, Brendon Hoback, and Sereana Reed.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

  • Jean was a swell person. She was always there for you. She was the best company to talk with. We shared many things together that we thought were secret.
    I missed seeing her mostly because of the Covid 19 Pandemic. I will always remember her as a very pleasant women. She also had a lot of class and style about herself. She loved to look nice and she did at all times. I will truly miss Jean and in my heart I know she loved me even with my short comings. Sadly Missed, Miriam White
