Jeanette C. Clifton, age 84, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021.

Bornin Wilmington, DE, on October 28, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Austin C. and Myrtle (Dean) Riley.

Jeanette was a school bus driver with the Christina School District for 20 years. She was known to be a strong and independent woman who was always there when you needed her. Though she didn’t have much, Jeanette never thought twice about giving to others. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who was proud of her Irish heritage. Jeanette enjoyed visiting the beach whenever she could. Most of all, she will be remembered as the family matriarch and the glue that held them together.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her children, Michael, Jayne, and Judith Clifton and grandchildren, Teagan and Mitchell Clifton. She will be dearly missed by her children, Robert Clifton, Paul Clifton (Jamie), Johanne Giampietro (Vince), Julie Carmona (Louiz), David Clifton, and Martin Burkett (Stephanie); many grandchildren; 3 sisters; 6 brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the Governor of Delaware. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, 312 Bethel Cemetery Road, Chesapeake City, MD.
