Joan Elizabeth Lee

Joan Elizabeth Lee, age 66, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Born in Welch, WV on April 15, 1959, she was a daughter of the late Paul Alvis and Lillie Marie (Mathena) Lambert. Joan worked in customer service at BJ’s Wholesale Club.

Joan’s most treasured memories were made at family get togethers. She always looked forward to spending time with her granddaughter, whom she loved very much. Her granddaughter was the apple of her eye. Joan also enjoyed trips with her husband, especially to Gettysburg, PA and down South to visit with cousins. During the summer, she loved walking on the boardwalk. She also enjoyed playing video games. Joan had a very giving heart and found great joy in giving to others. She was a talented cook and loved to share food with her neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, John Lee; and siblings, Carol Boyle, Lonnie Lambert, Dennis Lambert, Larry Lambert, Ruth Darnell, Kathy Stanley, and Joyce Righter. She is survived by her beloved son, Shane Ellis; granddaughter, Kaylie Ellis; sisters, Rita Cavallucci and Donna Crawford; brothers-in-law, Thomas Crawford and Frank Boyle; best friend, Lina Besteder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
