Joan M. Hart, age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on August 6, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Nora T. (Walsh) Hart. Joan was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School and attended Goldey-Beacom College. She worked as a secretary at Speakman Co., Tatnall School, and Hart Construction.

Joan was a proud member of Business and Professional Women, Inc. where she served as president from 1976 to 1978. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing tennis and travelling. Joan was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish for many years, serving as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Hart, Myles Hart, Bill Hart, and Larry Hart. She is survived by her brother, Robert Hart; and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

  • I remember Joan from SMM. she was a wonderful person. She was my Mom’s friend. Her name was Mary Groome. She knew Joan from church and the Sodality.

    Now Joan can rest in peace and enjoy being in the presence of God and all those who went home before her.

  • I worked with Joan many years ago at Speakman as a young draftsman learning so much about industry that was all happening under the same roof. Joan was a delight and great spirit always with a smile. She was also a woman of great faith and dedication! may she know her reward in God’s embrace.
