Joan M. “Joanie” Mayer, age 83, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on July 6, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Doris (Taylor) Wolhar. Joanie made her career as an administrative assistant at Avon Products until her retirement.
Joanie enjoyed playing the piano and organ in her spare time. When she was ready to get away, she loved visiting Bethany Beach. Above all, Joanie cherished time spent with her family, especially Sunday dinners.
In addition to her parents, Joanie was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald P. Mayer; and brother, Richard Wolhar. She is survived by her children, Lisa Mayer Capiro, Adam C. Mayer (Amy), and Vincent P. Mayer; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 11 am on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711. Inurnment will be held privately.

So sorry to hear of Joanie’s passing. I worked with her at Avon. She was such a sweet, caring person – loved all the jewelry she wore! She was truly one of a kind and I’m lucky to have known her. I remember seeing her occasionally at Kohl’s after she retired. Also remember the Town Car(s) she drove! May your memories and all the lives she touched help you through this difficult time.
