October 3, 1942 - October 1, 2025
John C. “Jack” Wilson, Jr., age 82, of New Castle, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Born on October 3, 1942, in Wilmington, Delaware, he was a son of the late John Sr. and Edith (Palmer) Wilson. Jack graduated in 1961 from William Penn High School in New Castle, Delaware. A proud patriot, Jack served his country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he dedicated his life to protecting his community as a career firefighter with the City of Wilmington from 1965 to 1987. Jack remained deeply committed as a life member of the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company, joining in 1958. After retiring, he continued his dedication to public safety through his work with Guardian Environmental.
Beyond his service, Jack had a zest for life. He was a devoted Civil War enthusiast, an avid fan of William Penn High school football, he loved Irish music and bag pipes and cherished time spent snuggling with his dog, Toby. Some of his happiest memories were made during family trips to Disney World, where he shared his love of adventure and wonder with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Hayden and Deborah Wilson; and son-in-law, Joseph Hypes. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan; children, John III (Allie), Karen (Ronald Jr.), Brian and Sandy; grandchildren, JC (Julia), David (Lora), Joey (Sierra), Olivia and Emma; great-grandson, Tristan; and one great granddaughter expected in March.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 8:15 am until 10:15 am on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the Wilmington Manor Fire Company, P.O. Box 645, New Castle, DE 19720 or online by clicking here.
