John Donald Cleaver, Sr.
February 1, 1948 - September 3, 2018
John Donald Cleaver, Sr., age 70, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2018.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on February 1, 1948, he was the son of the late Melvin C. and Jacqueline M. (Draper) Cleaver. John was a custodian at DelCastle Vo-Tech School and before that spent many years as the housing manager for UD.
He was fanatic about the television shows, The Waltons, MASH and watching wrestling. John was a proud democrat. Above all he will be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather and dear friend to many.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline M. Alverez. He is survived by his children, Shirl Wolinksi (Steven) of Kenton, DE, Edna E. Cleaver of Wilmington, DE and John D. Cleaver II of Wilmington, DE; sister, Katherine Day; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery, 428 Port Penn Rd, Middletown, DE.
