Joseph Anthony Jimenez

February 5, 1937 - January 5, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Joseph Anthony Jimenez who passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.

Born in New York City on February 5, 1937, Joe who was affectionately known as Bing, was the seventh son of the late Felipe and Yara (Castellano) Jimenez’s 17 children. After completing his education in the New York City school system, he began his career as a bartender where he worked at some of the finest upscale nightclubs in Manhattan, such as the Union Club, the Apartment, and Ramundos. Following many years in the bartending business he had a change in career path and became a salesman for Prudential life insurance where he won many awards including entry into the prestigious “Million Dollar Club” for achieving over a million dollars in sales for two consecutive years, a feat very few salesmen earned.

It was also at Prudential that Joe met the love of his life, and future wife Rose Maria Moore, who also worked at Prudential. From this beautiful union they were blessed with their daughter Danica Rose, and their two sons James Philip, and Ernest Kent. Years later he retired from Prudential where he touched many lives throughout his career, leaving a legacy of kindness and respect among his colleagues and clients.

Joe was strong and physically active. He enjoyed many social activities, including being a pitcher in the Triboro Softball League in Yorkville and Harlem, bowling as a member of his Prudential team, eating crabs and clams, or just watching sports, Joe was an avid sportsman. But what he enjoyed most was spending time with family. As a teenager he spent time with his extended family in Florida and maintained those relationships throughout his entire life. Joe was proud to be a Jimenez, and loved attending his more than 45 Jimenez family reunions over the decades. He loved to travel, whether it was out of the country, camping, or to visit family, especially his last “Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel” road trips to N.C. with his in-laws Linda and Fred.

Joe was a loving husband, and caring father and grandfather. Nothing brought more joy to Joe than seeing his family happy, and nothing made him happier than spending daddy daughter days with Danica, taking James to Star Trek conventions, taking Ernest to Pokemon club, attending his grandchildren Nicholas, Gregory, and Gabriella’s many recitals, sports, and school performances, he especially treasured the time he spent with his youngest granddaughter Charlotte Joe who is named after him.

With all the many accomplishments and accolades Joe made, nothing mattered more to him than his family, to whom he was deeply devoted and loved dearly. In addition to his parents Felipe and Yara, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers Philip, John, Andrew, Theodore, Peter Julio, Francisco, and Tony, his sisters Mercedes, Jeanette, and Rosalie, and his Great-grandson, Ares Gross.  Joe’s memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife Rose, his daughter Danica (Gregory Gross) his two sons, James, Ernest (Morgan), his Grandsons, Nicholas, Gregory II, Granddaughters Gabriella, and Charlotte Joe, his siblings; Theresa, Pamela, Emilia (Raymond), Michael (Patricia), James (Marie), his father and mother in-law James and Juanita Moore, sister in-law Linda(Freddie), brother in-law Michael, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, Godchildren, extended family and friends.

Joe was an amazing husband, father, family member and friend who touched so many lives with his generous spirit, warm heart, and the memorable stories he told. He was a beacon of knowledge regarding his early family history and was the go to guy for family related information and historical events. His was a life well lived. He was a man of great self determination. He made his own choices and would live his own life by his own standards.

To quote one of his favorite singers Frank Sinatra “I’ve lived a life that’s full, I travelled each and every highway, and more, much more than this, I did it my way”

He made a lasting impact on everyone around him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

A memorial to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at a later date, and additional details will be shared when finalized.
