Joseph B. Clark, Sr.

Joseph B. Clark, Sr., age 84, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Born in Wilmington, DE on September 26, 1939, he was a son of the late Benjamin V. and Julia (Mulrooney) Clark. After graduating from Salesianum High School in 1957, Joe went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1961 and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Delaware in 1969. Joe was honored to serve in the Delaware National Guard, where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He loved working with computers and was an accomplished Senior Programmer Analyst with the majority of his career (32 years) spent with E.I. DuPont Company.

Active in his community, Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus, taught CCD at St. Mary of the Assumption in Hockessin, and was an AARP defensive driving instructor. In his younger years, he played football, basketball and baseball. Joe loved cheering on his beloved professional sports teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, while also cheering on as many of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events / activities as he could. Most of all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially while visiting DE beaches.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Michael Clark. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann (Whalen) Clark; daughter, Mary Ann Clark; sons, Steve, Ted, and Joe Clark, Jr. (Anna); sister, Kathy Clark; grandchildren, Alec (Anna Noel Alesi), Skylar, Rachael, Dylan and Paige Clark; and great grandchildren, Ryan, Sofia and Andrew Clark.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10 am on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 319 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
