Joseph “Joe” Joannides

December 10, 1926 - June 25, 2021

Joseph “Joe” Joannides, affectionately known as “J.J.”, “Pop Pop”, or “Pappous” to friends and family, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at his grandson’s home on Friday, June 25, 2021.

Born in Wilmington, DE on December 10, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Mansouri) Joannides. Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served until October 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He then went on to work for Hiram Walker for 30 years. Joe was an avid keyboard player and could often be found playing for his fellow friends and families at numerous events.

In addition to his parents, Joe’s was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Alice (McAllister) Joannides. He is survived by his son, John Joannides; beloved daughter-in-law, Sharon Joannides; grandchildren, Joseph J. Joannides (Kristie) of Newark, Stephanie McPeak (Rich) of Newark, Michael Joannides (Danielle) of Rochester, NY; and his three great-grandchildren of whom he was so proud, John “Jack’ Joannides, Alexis Joannides, and Hope Joannides.

Joe’s family would like to send their deepest gratitude to the amazing staff with Bayada Hospice. Their compassion and care went above and beyond in their time of need.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, September 10, 2021 in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.
