Joseph R. “Joe” Hartnett, Sr., age 68, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
Born in Wilmington, DE on June 5, 1952, he was a son of the late William Hartnett and Joanne (Perna) Pate. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a maintenance worker and groundskeeper for the City of Wilmington Department of Parks and Recreation. Joe loved his work and the friends he made there. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, Mopar racing and watching the Phillies. Above all, Joe cherished time spent with his family.
Joe is survived by his children, Joseph R. Hartnett, Jr. (Vicky Morley), Robert L. Hartnett (Shannon) and Jessica L. Avalos; siblings, Danny Hartnett and Lisa Fersch; grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexis, Marissa, Zachary, Madison, Isabella and Ethan; 2 great grandchildren; and his best friend of more than 40 years, Gene.
A public visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, July 3, 2020, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, in compliance with the COVID-19 regulations. A service and interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
