Joseph William “Joe” Morgan, age 88, of Newark, Delaware (recently from Edgewater, Florida) passed away peacefully, in the presence of family members on October 3, 2025.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on January 3, 1937, he was the oldest son of the late Dudley and Margaret (Bayley) Morgan. Joe was a graduate of Roselle Park High School in New Jersey with the class of 1955. From high school, he joined the U.S. Navy for 2 years and then attended Ryder College where he learned accounting skills. He worked for several years for Agway in Summerville, NJ, Syracuse NY, and Harrisburg, PA before taking a position with Rollins Corp. in Delaware where he worked in management of a computer school. Joe’s last job before retiring was managing a marina store at Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

He enjoyed sailing with his family, both racing and cruising, and was a member of the Columbia Sailing Association. Joe was also interested in antique cars and owned several: a 1932 Model A Ford Coupe, a 1965 Mustang, and a 1965 Thunderbird convertible. In retirement, Joe and his wife, Barbara, lived aboard their 42-foot sailboat for eight years and sailed up and down the Intracoastal Waterway, spending summers in the Chesapeake and winters in the Bahamas.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Morgan. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara Jane French Morgan; two daughters, Elaine Morgan (Peter VanderKley) and Linda Morgan (Charles Clause); grandchildren, Robert Cox (Kristin), Nathan Morgan Fiser (Lexi), Katherine Beatie (Charles), Elizabeth Chandler Savino (Sergio), Elise Rezendes (Ben) and Peter VanderKley (Hali); and 6 great-grandchildren, Lillyana, Lena, Morgan, Kelsey, Ian, and CJ.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date

In lieu of flowers, donations to your local hospice organization made in Joe’s memory would be very much appreciated by the Morgan family.

8 Condolences for Joseph William “Joe” Morgan

  • Uncle Joe was a wonderful person and will forever be a part of our lives. Thanksgiving will always be special to us Housleys.

  • So sad to hear that Uncle Joe has passed! Thinking of you all in this difficult time. One of my fondest memories of Joe was in our kitchen (around 1970), I opened a silverware drawer that had a live mouse in it and screamed so loud that Joe almost fell off his chair. All the years of sailing together, we’re all so thankful that our parents were such great friends – great memories we can all cherish. I will miss my “uncle”.

  • G-Pop was the best. When ever we Visted he always gave us ice cream money and he said. “You can only use this on ice cream.” G-pop was the best He was funny, kind, and always wore his sail boat pants.
