Joyce Elaine Laird
November 3, 1957 - January 19, 2024
Joyce Elaine Laird, age 66, of Bear, DE, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 19, 2024. Joyce battled Vascular Dementia courageously for 11 years.
Born in New Castle, DE on November 3, 1957, she was a daughter of Sandra E. (Davis) and the late Carl H. Cox. Joyce was the oldest of five children, Donna, Donald, Wayne, and Gerry. She attended and graduated from William Penn High School in 1975, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, David Laird with the 57 Chevy convertible; they have been happily married for 47 years. Joyce worked at JP Morgan Chase and Wayman Fire Protection. Upon retiring to watch her grandchildren, she started her own company called Say It With Thread, which provided custom embroidery to her great customers.
Together Joyce and David ran two successful businesses and raised two children. Along with working together with her husband, she enjoyed building hot-rods, traveling to car shows, and hunting with family and friends. Above all else, Joyce wholeheartedly loved her family and cherished the moments spent creating memories that will last a lifetime.
In addition to her father, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Cox. She is survived by her soulmate and the love of her life, David Laird; children, Teri and David Jr., along with his wife, Brandie, who Joyce proudly referred to as a daughter; grandchildren, Jamison, Cheyenne and Wesley; siblings, Donna, Wayne and Gerry; along with many other close family members and friends.
The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice for all the exceptional care and support that they have provided to Joyce and her family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 4 pm.
