Joyce Mary Reynolds

November 6, 1946 - June 10, 2026

Joyce Mary Reynolds, age 79, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, on November 6, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Francis Orlando and Thelma (Prettyman) Sutton. Joyce was a graduate of Gunning Bedford High School with the class of 1964. Throughout her high school years, Joyce had a passion for the arts, participating in theatre, choir, and octets. She also enjoyed staying active in sports, playing basketball, hockey, ice skating, volleyball, and horseback riding. She then attended Goldey-Beacom College, School of Business, earning her degree in February of 1966.

Joyce made her career as a legal secretary for Joe Hurley for over 40 years until her retirement in 2017. Devoted to her work, she continued to help the firm until 2023 when she officially retired for the last time.

Joyce loved to spend time with family and friends enjoying life. She loved to travel, especially with her family to St. Thomas during the cold, winter months.  She also loved spending summers at the beach, boating, and jetskiing. She was an avid reader and walker, and loved to shop, especially with her granddaughter.  Above all, Joyce’s greatest joy was being with her family.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Richard Reynolds Jr., Christopher Reynolds, and Shawn Reynolds (Andrea); grandchildren, Richard Reynolds III, Tyler Reynolds (Courtney), Zachary Reynolds, Olivia Reynolds, and Nathan Reynolds; and 2 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her long-time companion, Charles Moore, of 20+ years.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Rd., St. Georges, DE.

  • Dickie, Chris, Shawn and Extended families,
We were sad to hear of your Mother’s passing. Many memories we hold dear of visiting your Grandmother and Grandfather’s home and sitting on their front porch. It was also always nice catching up with Joyce when we saw her there. Your Mother, Joyce, kept in touch with Aunt Janice, our Mother, for many years before our Mother’s passing a couple of years ago. We always were very thankful for that. Joyce will be always remembered for her kindness by all of us.
