Judith Ann “Judy” Burtell

Judith Ann “Judy” Burtell, age 66, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Born in Wilmington, DE on April 7, 1956, she was a daughter of Mary Martha (Hartz) Pribish and the late John Joseph Pribish, Sr. Judy was a graduate of DeLaWarr High School in New Castle, class of 1974. She worked for Christiana Hospital for four years before starting her career as a religious education coordinator for Holy Spirit R.C. Church as well as St. Peter the Apostle Parish.

Judy was quite creative; in her spare time, she enjoyed making exquisite jewelry pieces and drawing. She could often be found reading or giving back to her community as a volunteer. Judy loved people and touched many lives. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, John J. Pribish, Sr. She is survived by her husband, Lewis James Burtell; children, Lewis John Burtell (Paula) and John Paul Burtell (Lauren); mother, Mary M. Pribish; siblings, Martha Shoemaker, Mary Theresa Walton (William), and John Joseph Pribish, Jr. (Mary); grandchildren, Ashley, Aiden, Keira, Reese, and Ian Burtell; great-grandchildren, Arielle Burtell and Armani Hill; nephews, Anthony and Matthew Reilly, and Jesse Walton; and niece, Jennifer Kline.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
