Karen Lightfoot, age 70 of Bear, DE, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Born in Wilmington, DE on December 13, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy V. (McGowan) Mulshenock, Sr. Karen was a graduate of St. Peter the Apostle School in 1969. She worked as a dental receptionist. Deep in her faith, Karen was a devout member of Holy Spirit R.C. Church. She enjoyed spending time in her community, often refereeing high school basketball games. In her spare time, Karen enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and playing games. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. Above all, Karen cherished her family and time spent with them, especially summers at the campground.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her siblings, Philamena Trala and Patrick Mulshenock; and niece, Michelle Dych. She is survived by her husband, Charles Lightfoot; children, John R. Lightfoot and Cara Lightfoot-Merrill (George H. III), both of Bear; grandson, Evan; and siblings, Joanne Klinefelter of Newark, Mary M. Dych, Richard Mulshenock (Patty), Colleen Clark (Allen), all of New Castle, Martin Mulshenock of Newark and Dorothy Yanacek (Ronald) of Wilmington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Masks will be required for all in attendance.

    I will truly miss my dear friend. We had some great times over the years.. When she made up her mind about something you couldn’t change her and she would do anything for her friends. It wasn’t easy for her the last several years but she never complained. She loved you all very much and you all took such good care of her. May she rest in peace. Thinking of you all.
