Katherine D. “Kathy” Sekscinski
Katherine D. “Kathy” Sekscinski, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Recently of Selbyville, DE, but a long-time resident of Minquadale.
Kathy was a devoted mother to Chris (Skylar) and Michael (Meagan, Addison, and Paisley). She was preceded in death by her parents and many of her siblings, including her brother Merritt, whom she cared for as his primary caregiver for decades — one of the truest measures of who she was. Kathy was lucky to find many forever friendships among her own family members. She cherished memories of family trips she took with them throughout her adulthood.
She is survived by her sons, grandchildren, two siblings, and many extended family members she loved deeply.
Kathy spent decades working in the Delaware Court system, often on the late shift, complementing her night owl tendencies. She was proud of her longtime membership in the Minquadale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Kathy was easy-going and never one to make a fuss. She liked sitting back and watching everyone else, and she’d greet you with a warm “Hey, hun.” She had her non-negotiables, though — cold coffee, a missing newspaper, or a poorly run BINGO game could all get a rise out of her. A winning scratch-off or a couple dollars off a penny machine could really make her day. She helped keep QVC in business, and every so often she’d order something ‘nicey-nicey’ off of it — usually a cute pair of earrings or a sparkly ring, since Kathy didn’t feel dressed without these finishing touches. Kathy’s quiet, steady presence will be deeply missed.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
