Kathleen Marie Pettis - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Kathleen Marie Pettis

September 2, 1943 - January 3, 2023

Kathleen Marie Pettis, who became affectionately known as “Kathy”, age 79, ascended to God’s glory on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Long Island NY, after she fought a good fight before going home to her Heavenly Father.

Born in Long Island, NY on September 2, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Muriel Hammond, Sr. Kathy was raised in South Ozone Park, Jamaica, NY. Kathy graduated From John Adams H.S., and attended Manhattan Community College.

After being a housewife for many years and rearing her children, she then embarked on a career at Saint John’s Episcopal Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant up until she retired after almost 25 years. Kathy loved watching her Soap Operas until the day she earned her wings. She loved sewing, crocheting and caring for her beloved dog, Princess. In her younger days she loved having picnics with family and friends in the various state parks on Long Island, and we would always have to get there at the crack of dawn to, “Get the best spot!”, as she would say!

Kathy’s favorite greeting for family and friends was, “Hi Boobala”. She was known for being on-time, and never late!

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Hammond Jr.; son, Sean Anderson; husband, Arthur Pettis Sr.; great grandson, Nysir Moore; and son-in-law, Lloyd Jeffrey.

We thank God for the love she blessed our lives with for 79 years. She leaves to mourn her loss, daughters Jeanine Jeffrey, Desiree Anderson, and Danielle Anderson; son, Brandon Pettis; grandchildren, Demetria Parker, Devon Moore, Demi Moore, Jihad Jeffrey, and Derae Moore; great-grandchildren, Amadeon Beard, Malani Moore, and Ja’dore Jeffrey; special friend, Eldon Doyle (affectionately known as Buddy); and her best friend, Denise Jones.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Forest Cemetery, 2025 Cedar Lane, Middletown, DE.

You bid no one a last farewell not even a goodbye you were gone before we knew it and only god knows why…May the peace that comes from the memories of love shared comfort you now and in the days ahead.
