Kenneth R. Spicer, Jr., age 42, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Middletown, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Spicer was born in Wilmington on June 18, 1970, and was a graduate of Caravel Academy. He proudly served his country for four years with the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion of the US Marine Corps. In civilian life, he made his career as a professional pipefitter and was a member of Union Local #74.
A gifted and disciplined athlete throughout his life, Mr. Spicer was a member of the elite karate fraternity Order of Isshin-Ryu, earning a black belt during his intensive study at its Elkton, MD dojo. He was also a longtime member of Lafayette Lodge #14, AF&AM, in Wilmington.
In his leisure hours, he was an avid outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed both hunting and fishing.
Mr. Spicer was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandson, and friend who will be deeply missed by the many people who loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Crossan Spicer, with whom he would have celebrated two years of marriage on October 27th; his son, Dylan Spicer; stepson, Jayden; parents, Kenneth R. Spicer, Sr. and Elsie M. Brand Spicer of Middletown; brother, Wesley A. Spicer of Middletown; and paternal grandmother, Elsie M. Spicer and her husband Dwayne of Harrington.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, October 19, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Kenneth Spicer Memorial Fund, c/o Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home at the address above.
