Lee Walter Lund
June 24, 1947 - December 27, 2024
Lee Walter Lund, age 77, of Newark, DE, formerly of Richfield, MN, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Born in Grand Rapids, MN on June 24, 1947, he was a son of the late Walter and Alice Lund. He graduated from Richfield High School in Richfield, MN and was voted “Best All Around” in his senior class of 1965. He then attended the University of Minnesota, where he received his degree in Physics. During his time at the University, he was drafted to the US Army. He proudly served his country and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his twin brother, Larry Lund. Lee will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon K. Auen-Lund; daughter, Alexis “Ali” Lund; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Gabler; his brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Kim Lund; and several nieces and nephews.
Lee’s greatest passion was teaching. He taught physics at Holy Trinity High School in Winsted, MN, worked as headmaster of the Michelin American School in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and taught physics and other sciences at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, MN. At the end of every period at “Smiley” High, Lee recited the following, “Study hard, smile a lot, don’t smoke, wash your hands frequently, and be proud.” It is a phrase that is remembered and repeated by many. He was beloved by all of his students.
Outside of work, Lee loved spending time with “his girls,” Sharon and Ali, and cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Golden Gophers. He also enjoyed his morning coffee, reading the newspaper, and completing crossword and Sudoku puzzles in ink.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Two of my friends whom I grew up with! Lee and Larry had different personalities! Lee was serious while Larry was a little wild! Spent a lot of time in their basement playing with their race car track! Rest in peace Lee!

Lee, if we can’t have you on this planet anymore what better place for you than heaven with family and friends who were there to welcome you home. You were the best and will always be missed. We will do our best to take care of Sharon and Ali but no one can do it like you did. Soar with the eagles my friend.

We were neighbors for only 21/2 years which was not long enough. You were such a delight to be around and I will miss seeing you faithfully walking up and down the hall.

I taught with Lee for a number of years. I often think of the conversations that we had and the advice that he gave me about teaching but more importantly about life. I always loved hearing his stories and he was always excited and eager to hear about my two young girls(at the time and they are now 17 and 13). He was on my mind this holiday season and found out about his passing today. I am very sorry for your loss and you are in my prayers Sharon and Ali!
