Leroy C. Knight, Jr.

August 21, 1938 - September 15, 2026

Leroy C. Knight, Jr., age 88, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on August 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Leroy Charles and Clara (Hopkins) Knight, Sr. Leroy proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning his career at General Motors and building a life and family he was so proud of.

Leroy was married to his beloved wife, Guadalupe “Lupe” Luna Knight, for 61 years. Together, they raised their family and shared a lifetime of memories.

Being a grandfather was one of the greatest joys of Leroy’s life. He didn’t just love his grandchildren—he was there for them. He drove his eight grandchildren to school every morning, picked them up every afternoon, and spent countless summer days babysitting them. He was part of their everyday lives, from school days and summer vacations to the ordinary moments that often become the memories we treasure most.

He gave his grandchildren his time, his attention, and his love, and in return, they gave him some of the happiest moments of his life. He was so proud of them and later enjoyed watching his family grow to include ten great-grandchildren. Seeing his grandchildren become parents and watching the next generation grow was a blessing he treasured.

Leroy enjoyed the simple things in life. One of his favorite pastimes was taking trips to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He loved getting away, visiting the area, and making memories along the way. Those trips became part of the many stories and memories his family will continue to carry with them.

Leroy will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten. We will carry him with us in the stories we tell, the memories we share, and in the family he loved so dearly.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Knight; sisters, Barbara Craven and Roxanne Bennett; sister-in-law, Ann Knight; and brothers-in-law, Joe Cannon and Bud DeLancey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Guadalupe “Lupe” Luna Knight; daughters, Lora Carter (Bob) and Loraine Baez (Ferkyn); eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Cannon, Diane DeLancey, Mildred Roberts (Ray), Debbie Pulice (Butch), and Cindy Chavis (Robby); many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A committal service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
