Mr. Leslie Edward Hearn, Jr., age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, after becoming ill in his RV in Lancaster County, PA.
Born in Delmar, MD, on May 7, 1930, Mr. Hearn was the son of the late Leslie Edward Hearn, Sr. and Mary Evelyn Figgs Fleetwood. He enjoyed a varied professional career, working first as a foreman for Continental Can Co. in Wilmington and later accepting a position as an insurance agent with Prudential Financial where he retired. Following his retirement, he would continue working as a bus driver with the Christina School District for an additional 20 years.
Active in his community throughout his life, he was particularly proud of the volunteer work he did as the district commissioner of the Del-Mar-Va Council of Boy Scouts of America and of his role in supporting the Band Boosters of John Dickinson High School. He was also a member of Armstrong Lodge #26, AF & AM, in Newport, a past president of the Villa Belmont Condo Association, and a longtime member of the Newark Senior Center.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Hearn was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed camping in his RV. During one notable RV trip, he happily navigated the entire length of the East coast from Ormond Beach, FL, to Bar Harbor, ME. Blessed with many friends he made during his travels, he greatly enjoyed the company of his fellow campers as a member of the Delaware Campers Association.
A season ticket holder for many years, Mr. Hearn was a dedicated fan of University of Delaware Blue Hen football. He also looked forward to attending live theatrical performances, particularly musicals and dinner theater.
Well known for his skill as a master handyman, he delighted in assisting family and friends with all types of building projects and complex household repairs.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Elaine Mary Stoudt; children, David Hearn (Kathryn) and Dianne Gay (Ted); stepson, Kevin Stoudt (Terri); grandchildren, Matthew Hearn (Sarah), Elizabeth Hearn, Adriana Gay, Jill Stoudt, and Amanda Stoudt; great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Charles, Kathryn, Josephine, and William; and his pet cats, Gregory and Jake.
