Linda Ann Cofran

January 3, 1949 - December 29, 2024

Linda Ann Cofran, 75, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Christiana Hospital Newark, Delaware from cardiac arrest.

Linda was born January 3, 1949 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Earl and Francis (Grazier) Outten. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth School and Goldey-Beacom College, where she earned a degree in accounting.

Linda worked in procurement services at the University of Delaware for 23 years and received the professional certification of C.P.M. from the National Association of Educational Buyers. She completed the Dale Carnegie Course and felt it was beneficial in her interaction with university departments. She was also proud to be the operational heart of the family custom building and woodworking business, managing the books and ensuring administrative operations ran smoothly for more than 30 years. Prior to those roles, she embraced her family’s enthusiasm for soccer by becoming a licensed referee for youth, high school and adult games. She enjoyed hosting friends, family and neighbors with good food, style and fun. She was definitely a class act and will be missed.

Linda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Tom; her children, Tom II (Heidi) and Chad Cofran (Allyson); her grandchildren: Caroline, Claire, Jack, Sam and Harrison; her siblings: Earl Outten Jr. (Judy), Nancy Emig (Mark) and Jeff Outten (Kim); aunt, Karen Outten; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.

  • I met Linda as a teenager, and quickly became part of her family. She would greet me (always impeccably dressed, of course) with a hug, big smile, and often a “happy happy” or gift. I loved her immediately. She was intelligent, quick-witted, possessed a sparkling personality and infectious laugh. All that knew Linda would agree she was a class act. Her thoughtfulness and generosity knew no bounds. I share my sorrow with and offer condolences to her loved ones. I know this is a tough loss.
