Madeline A. O’Connor, age 98, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Born in Penns Grove, NJ on September 29, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Rocco and Aminta (DiTomasso) DiGioacchino.

Deep in her faith, Madeline was a devout Catholic and was very active in the Carmelite community as well as Holy Family Catholic Church. Throughout her nursing career, Madeline demonstrated an unwavering passion for learning and advancing her skills to provide the highest level of care. She retired as a nurse educator at Crozer Medical after 25 years. In her retirement, she remained deeply committed to her faith, actively supporting Catholic initiatives and causes. She also had a deep love for cooking and spent countless hours perfecting recipes in the kitchen.

In addition to her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. O’Connor; and siblings, Lisabetta DiGioacchino, Rocco DiGioacchino MD, Josephine “Fifi” Lopes, and Anna McConnell. She is survived by her children, Maura O’Connor and Aminta O’Connor; sister, Theresa Panunto; granddaughter, Katie Whitestone; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Reilly.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
