Malissa K. “Missy” McMullen
November 23, 1964 - February 21, 2025
Malissa K. “Missy” McMullen, age 60, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 21, 2025.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on November 23, 1964, she was a daughter of the late Ralph H. and Fredricka H. (Robinson) Crossan, Sr.
Malissa grew up on the Crossan family farm in Corner Ketch. She had many fond memories of her years on the farm with her family. Her strong work ethic, love of family and love of gardening started there. In her early years she spent summers in the large family garden with her siblings tending to and harvesting vegetables and strawberries. She also shared in daily chores caring for the farm and house in preparation for often enjoyed family holidays and get togethers. Missy graduated from Newark High and Hodgson Vo-Tech where she studied Early Childhood Education. Missy worked for many years at Zepher Knoll daycare before starting her own home day care. She was very passionate in loving and caring for children including her nieces and nephews. Every child she cared for she treated as her own. Missy made her second career as an office assistant for Artesian Water Co. for 15 years until her retirement.
Missy was very proud of her children, Brianna, Robbie and her future son-in-law, Mark. Missy enjoyed having lunch with her grand puppy Leia and taking an afternoon nap. Missy enjoyed spending her spare time working in her flower and vegetable garden. She needed a “she shed” to store all her favorite lawn and gardening items. She loved to take trips to the beach and camping in Hershey, PA. Deep in her faith, Missy was a long-time member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and looking forward to joining her new church family at Holy Family Church.
In addition to her parents, Missy was preceded in death by her son, Christopher McMullen; brother, Ralph Crossan, Jr.; mother-in-law, Rita Biddle; father and mother-in-law, Tom and Betty McMullen; and brother-in-law, Donald Conrad. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Thomas G. McMullen; children, Brianna McMullen (Mark Dennison) and Robert McMullen; siblings, Cecil Crossan (Denise), Kimberly Wolfe (Timothy), and Fredrick Crossan; sister-in-law, Patricia Conrad, Catherine Dalgarn (Richard), Suzann Shorb, and Debra Finocchiaro (Thomas); 29 nieces and nephews; 12 great nieces and nephews; and grand puppy, Leia.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 11 am on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Kemblesville Cemetery, 1772 New London Road, Kemblesville, PA.
