Marcia Margaret (Gillespie) Schreiber

Marcia Margaret (Gillespie) Schreiber, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Born in Chester, PA on October 23, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Griffin Clyde Gillespie and Constance Marie (Cooney) Gillespie Diksa. Marica made her career at International Reading Association for 35 years.

In addition to her parents, Marcia was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert E. Schreiber, Sr.; brother, Kenneth Gillespie; and stepfather, Frank Diksa. She is survived by her daughter, Marybeth Schreiber, with whom she lived; sons, Robert Schreiber, Jr. (Gina) and Michael Schreiber (Robin Foraker); brother, John Gillespie (Barbara); sister-in-law, Diane Gillespie; half-sister, Joan Good (David); stepsister, Linda Llanso (Steve); stepchildren, Joyce Garland, Vicki Baughman (Larry), Jim Schreiber (Peggy), and Matthew Schreiber; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

The family of Marcia would like to extend a special thank you to AccentCare Hospice for their excellent care as well as Marcia’s granddaughter’s, Kate and Colleen.

All services will be held privately.

  • Marsha was a great person. Worked with her for many years. IRA was never the same when she left. She made IRA a great place to work. Enjoyed many years going to the conventions she was in charge of. She took care of the people who worked and cared about them. Rest in peace

  • Marcia hired me at IRA and was my greatest mentor, supporter, and friend. She gave me so many opportunities to advance and grow in my job. Marcia knew it all with conference planning. We had great times traveling to conferences throughout the states as well as internationally. It’s true, that the day she left, things were never the same. She fought hard for all the staff. Marcia will be greatly missed. Rest in peace my friend❤️
