Margaret Mary "Peg" Kane McMullen - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Margaret Mary “Peg” Kane McMullen

July 10, 1938 - May 29, 2023

Margaret Mary (Peg) Kane McMullen, age 84, of Middletown Delaware, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023.  She was the mother of Joan Wilkie (Gregory), Constance Kramer (Samuel), and Lisa Fredd (Robert); proud grandmother of Lyndsay, Corey (Nong), Lauren (Daniel), Cody, Robbie, Renee, and Ryan; loving great-grandmother to Emory and Daniel; and sister to the late Patrick Kane.

Margaret Mary was a 1959 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and later received a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Art (1976) and a Master of Counseling (1979) from the University of Delaware. Early in her career she worked as a staff nurse at hospitals in Pennsylvania, California, and Delaware.  From 1972 until her retirement in 2001 she was the Director of the Kent/Sussex Counseling Services in Delaware.  This organization recognized Peg and her many contributions to the community in her retirement by naming the office building in her honor.

She was a proud grandmother to all seven grandchildren, forming a special unique bond with each of them and cherishing any time she was able to spend with them.  Christmas holidays were special to her, where she always outdid herself in preparing a delicious gourmet meal, with fine wine, for her whole family.  She was known for her exceptional gift giving- and knew how to host a family Christmas gathering where every year seemed to outdo the last.  Because of her, the family continues to have a special meeting place at her vacation home in Fenwick Island, Delaware.

Peg was a lover of fine things- she was a wine connoisseur, a wine snob.  Chardonnay was her favorite, specifically Pouilly-Fuissé, a label she would send family members on a scavenger hunt to secure.  She loved travel, especially abroad.  A simple trip to her refrigerator would take you around the world in refrigerator magnets. Her retirement years in Spring Mill were fulfilling to her, as her involvement in the Singles Social Club, Red Hat Club and Wine Peeps kept her social calendar filled.  She loved the theater, and was an avid reader and a lifelong learner.

In lieu of flowers, Peg’s children request that donations be made to atTAck Addiction at PO Box 36, Bear, DE 19701 or by clicking here.  Memorial services will be private, for immediate family only.
