Margaret Street Sullivan

January 1, 1921 - December 30, 2020

Margaret Street Sullivan, age 99, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Healthcare on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, 2 days prior to her 100th birthday.

Born in Wilmington, DE on January 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Walter S. and Helen C. (Klemmer) Smeck. Margaret graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in June 1940. In the spring of 1943, she traveled by train to San Francisco, CA to meet the “love of her life”, her husband, Paul J. Sullivan. During this time, Paul was serving with the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II. After traveling the world with Paul many years later, it would become Margaret’s favorite story to share with one and all.

She worked as an accountant for John Wanamaker & Co., but realized she was destined to become a businesswoman, long before it was acceptable and considered commonplace. Later, Margaret made her dream come true and eventfully opened her own store: Margie’s Bridal House. She successfully operated out of her own home on Sharp Road in Avondale, PA for several decades. Margaret will be remembered as someone that was ambitious, loving and determined.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her second husband of 15 years that she married at age 81, Walter E. Street; first husband, Paul J. Sullivan; eldest son, Dennis J. Sullivan; and daughter, Kathleen A. Dolbow. She is survived by her sons, Mark K. Sullivan of Newark and Steven B. Sullivan (Darlece) of Wilmington; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
