Maria B. McLaughlin

Born: 6/18/1942
Died: 7/22/2012

Mrs. Maria B. McLaughlin, age 70, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Maria was born in Wilmington on June 18, 1942, daughter of the late Armando Manucci and Theresa D’Ambrosio. She made her career as a professional medical transcriptionist, working for many local physicians and hospitals prior to her retirement.
Maria relished her life’s work as a truly happy homemaker. Known affectionately by her children as “The Queen of Clean,” she took great pride in keeping a welcoming and spotless home (often employing her vast collection of vacuum cleaners!). She was also an avid supporter of QVC and a red wine aficionado.
Maria developed an undying faith in St. Jude in her later years. Most of all, she delighted in the joyful company of her family and her many friends, and in her recent discovery of her love for pet cats (who knew?!).
She is survived by her beloved husband, William E. “Bill” McLaughlin, Sr., with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage in March of this year; children, William E. McLaughlin, Jr. of Bear, Trina M. McLaughlin of Newark, and Rebecca McLaughlin of Wilmington; brother, Ernest Manucci of Claymont; sister, Rita Gajewski of Lewes; granddaughter, Roseann N. McLaughlin; great grandson, Cameron; in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Manucci and Francis Manucci.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Maria’s dear friend Pauline Peterson for her loving care and support, and to the medical staff of the pulmonary and vascular ICU at Christiana Hospital for their exceptional care of Maria during her illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, July 25th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A second visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, July 26th, at the funeral home, where a funeral service will follow at 11 am. After the funeral service, a reception for family and friends will be held at St. Anthony’s Club, 1017 Gray Street, New Castle. At Maria’s request, the family asks everyone attending the visitation and the funeral to wear casual clothing.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Maria may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
