Marianne B. Cahill
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Marianne B. Cahill, of Newark, DE, on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the age of 84 years.
Born in Port Herman, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Ann (Coyle) Biddle, Jr. Marianne graduated from St. Elizabeth’s High School and then became a registered nurse at the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1962.
She later completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of San Francisco in 1967. She earned a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from University of California Medical Center and achieved her Clinical Specialist Certification for Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing in 1977. She worked as a nurse at Manhattan VA Hospital in New York and Mt. Zion Hospital in California.
She enjoyed teaching nursing students at the University of Delaware from 1969-1977. Marianne also counseled individuals and couples in her private psychotherapy practice for over 30 years.
Marianne loved spending her birthdays at the ocean with her husband Ron, sailing on her sailboat, yoga, gardening, and traveling.
She was a devout member of Holy Family R.C. Church and found great joy in spending time with family and friends. Her kindness and love were gifts to everyone who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Veasey, and brothers, Robert Biddle III and Patrick Biddle. Marianne is survived by her husband of 15 years, Ronald G. Cahill; daughter, April Biddle (Robert Darrow); sister, Nan Furness; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Biddle, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
