Marie A. Dawson

February 10, 1949 - December 4, 2018

Marie A. Dawson, age 69, of Bear, DE, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.

Born in Wilmington, DE on February 10, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Leo B. and Gladys M. Callahan.  Marie worked as a clerk for the State of Delaware in the Division of Visually Impaired.  Following retirement, she worked full time for the VA Hospital in Elsmere, where she also retired.  Marie also enjoyed her part time work at Bayshore Ford.

Marie’s fondest memories were spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters and vacationing to Disney World.  She enjoyed shopping and watching soap operas.  In her spare time, Marie loved flower and vegetable gardening.  She regularly attended St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Dawson Jr.; brothers, William Joseph and Bernard L. Callahan; and sister, Barbara J. Callahan.  She is survived by her son, Joseph W. Dawson III (Shannon); brothers, Kenneth D. Callahan and Randall C. Callahan (Susan); granddaughters, Samantha M. and Haylie M. Dawson; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 noon, on Monday, December 10, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon.  Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marie’s memory to Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company – Station 28, 301 North Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720.
